Jamey is a throwback to all the classic country "bigs". Waylon, Cash, Hag. He tells a story that we (I mean hardworking, blue-collar, everyday people) can relate to and connect with. Cant wait for the follow up.
Nelson, W. Language a bit graphic, but he's reminiscent of country singer like G. This singer is interesting: dark & humorous sides, with a haunting yet gruff voice. Jennings, etc. Jones, M. Haggard, W. Not a huge country music fan, so it takes a lot to impress me. This guy writes interesting songs, too.
Jamey Johnson tells a story with every song. Whether it is about prison, getting high, or trying to survive, every song is "in color." I love his voice, it reminds me of Johnny Cash and it melodious, yet haunting. This is a great cd and I see him being very successful in the future.
I watched Jamey Johnson on one of the many entertainment shows I watch throughout the year and heard him sing, "Between Jennings and Jones" so I googled him and found his website. I am not usually a country music fan but I love this cd and will buy anymore that he makes. His music was very raw and extremely good. I would reccomend this cd to anyone. Changed my mind somewhat about country music. Thx, Nancy Hansen
It's drank, snorted and smoked things that would have killed most humans. It's honest, unflinching songwriting and killer musicianship. This is music that lives and breathes. It's Jamey Johnson and he's a throwback to the days when country music had a wild side. Okay, I'm done now. It's yesterday's clothes and this morning's headache. Ol Waylon must be smiling from wherever he ended up.
Don't believe me. It's got whiskey on it's breath and smells of cigarette smoke. It's unusual for me to play something over and over and over again but I ain't even close to tired of this. It's tinged with regret, dealing with a broken heart but at the same time slightly amused. He's pretty accurate when he sings that his music is somewhere between Jennings and Jones. Trace Adkins and George Strait have recorded his music.
